The German Walnut Splitter is a pronged thin stainless steel tool for easily opening walnuts – without shattering the kernels or losing any of the nut meat.
The prong is simply inserted into the walnut seam on the blunt end, and then twisted. The shell neatly falls in half. The prong is then used to level out the flesh. It's simple, elegant, and almost beautiful in its simplicity.
This Walnut Opener is made by German company Raumgestalt whose corporate credo is "we're opposed to the speed and loudness of our daily environment" and goes on to talk about the benefits of "concentration and calm". As distinct from the common American solution to the walnut problem - everything from bashing with a hammer, to heavy lever action nutcrackers.
