Stork Embroidery Scissors are the time honoured scissors for fine needlework. They have the narrow blades needed for close cutting. And they look impossibly cute.

Whilst your grandma probably used them, Stork Embroidery Scissors were in use dating back to at least 19th century France - where midwives used earlier versions to deliver babies.

Legend has it that midwives used to occupy themseves doing needlework whilst awaiting a baby's birth and used to keep their professional tools with their sewing kit - leading to the morphing of the two.

The origins of scissors date back even further - to ancient China and Egypt. Modern scissors, as we know them today, were refined in the 12th century in cutting the paper necessary in Islamic calligraphy.

Since this time, all sorts of animals have been co-opted for scissor ornamentation. Cockerels, rabbits, lions, and even a kangaroo ('scisseroo' anyone ?) have all adorned a pair of scissors.

But it's the stork that has become the classic. It's a universal symbol of luck and fertility, and stork scissors are a time honoured newborn baby present (along with a coin, of course).

And these Stork Scissors aren't just any old stork scissors. They're made by Victorinox, famed manufacturer of the Swiss Army knife. They're in stainless steel with gold plated handles.

They're enough to turn anyone to embroidery.
