Nesti Dante Villages & Monasteries Soap
Nesti Dante Village & Monastery Soap is old-school artisan soap from Tuscany that cleans whilst smelling and feeling luxurious. It’s famous and is intended to capture the atmosphere of Tuscany in a single bar.
It smells a little woody, with a tad of citrus, and a general overtone of incense. For anyone who spent much of their youth in citrus groves or churches, this just seems to have the magic.
The Nesti Dante company is one of the few in the world to still make soap in the traditional cauldron manner – boiling for four days, then allowing it to set for another day. Its products are 100% biodegradable, completely natural and last for ages. They’re created without animal testing. Ingredients are mostly sourced from the Tuscan countryside surrounding Florence.
Signor Dante Nesti (sic) started his company in poverty ridden post-WW2 Italy in a fifty litre cauldron he’d built himself. He was following in a direct line of flourishing Florentine arts and crafts since the time of the Medicis in the 16th century (Florence had been a perfume centre since Catherine de Medici).
Nesti Dante Soaps use bigger cauldrons these days, but are still run by the grandchildren of the man who built that original little cauldron all those years ago. His grand-daughter Carolina, for example, is personally responsible for the deluxe wrapper design of each bar of soap.
These soaps are beautiful – to look at and to use. They come complete with Tuscan soul.
