Laguiole steak knives are the most elegant on the planet - they're amongst the few steak knives that aren't based on the chunky Texan model. If you order a steak in a French restaurant, chances are the knife will be one of these.
The bee on the bolster means that the knife is from the French town of Laguiole. It's a guarantee of a great steak knife - and twenty plus stages of forging, hardening, and assembly. It's enough to make Tim Shaw throw his free steak knives away.
The French town of Laguiole (pron La – Yoll) has been a world cutlery centre for two centuries. Itinerant workers would return home with ' Navaja ' switch blade knives from Spain. Laguiole artisans fused this design with the French fixed blade dagger called the 'Capuchado'. The result is the classic Laguiole Steak Knife with the gently curving blade and the flowing pistol grip – as produced here by the company of Jean Dubost – the son of a son of a cutler.
