The Freeplay Kito is a torch that can't let you down. Whenever you need light, you just wind the handle. The Kito has no batteries to dispose of. One minute of winding generates an hour of good light.
The torch's body is in heavy duty plastic, with a rubber enclosed lens. The winder is in glass reinforced nylon. The LED light lasts for 100,000 hours, so you'll never have to change it. Ergonomics make the unit a pleasure to hold - like a slightly smaller, lighter version of the old Dolphin torches. Kito measures 18cm x 8cm x 11cm, and weighs 450 grams.
The Kito is produced by the British company Freeplay who are world pioneers of sustainable torches. They saw the original need for this technology in Africa, and have worked closely with the United Nations to tailor products for people who may be isolated or nomadic. The name Kito comes from the Swahili word for "precious one".
