A Wise Ukulele is one of the most beautiful things you can hold. A genuine object of beauty, made by a human with expertise and care, in Margaret River. Scott Wise now actually sells ukuleles to Honolulu virtuosos.
Mr Wise has been hand crafting ukes and other stringed instruments in WA since 1978. Guitars, mandolins and fiddles have been his thing until a current fixation with Hawaii's favourite. This one is has a Tasmanian Blackwood body, an Australian Red Cedar neck, with ebony fingerboard. This a "Concert" ukulele which is slightly larger than the original little ukes, because it's louder and easier to play. It's no surprise that it's the most popular size.
This is a recent Wise creation, but tells a lovely story – involving the son of a former state premier, studying geology at UWA, playing in 1970s boogie band The Beagle Boys, fixing famous people's guitars in Fremantle, relocating to Margaret River for the surf, and playing on stage with wife and three tiny daughters at the Fairbridge Music Festival. The story's also about a West Australian who's become one of the very best in the world at what he does.
This humble ukulele has a not so humble price tag for a reason - it's scrupulously hand made, and is a best of breed. It's also the result of what a talented man has learnt in thirty years of life. You'll have to wait a year if you want Scott to make another one.
Dimensions : 58cm long , 21cm wide on widest part of body. Comes with carry case, strap and tuner.
