A Perpetua Pencil is the world’s most ecological writing instrument. It’s made from re-cycled graphite, and forms a single sleek body with the food grade eraser on the end. There’s no wooden casing, so no trees died for this pencil.

The Perpetua pencil writes for much longer than regular pencils, so you less of them. It doesn’t smudge onto hands, and doesn’t need sharpening (although it can be if you want to).

It also won’t break if dropped, but has a flat side to avoid rolling onto floors anyway.

These pencils are made in Italy (really !) by the Alisea company. It’s a noble company which began in 1994 and specialises in identifying worthless production materials and re-purposing them. A bit like brewer’s yeast extract and Vegemite…

The material in Perpetua pencils began as graphite dust generated in electrode manufacture, and is transformed into a beautiful HB pencil. Designer Marta Giardini previously worked for Armani Casa, and her pencil would look mighty fine sitting on an Armani table

Even the name of the pencil is significant : Perpetua was a 2nd century mother and martyr in what we now know as Tunisia. She is celebrated as a prison diarist.
