Olsson’s Salt dates from the 1960s as the oldest family salt company in Australia. Founder Charles Olsson spent time in Laquedoc, France to learn the secrets of France’s traditional flat flakes of sea salt (most salt is pyramid shaped).

Their salt flakes are produced from the pristine waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the Eyre Peninsula using solar evaporation. Just sun, wind and water – no additives.

Olsson’s Smoked sea salt combines the tradition and expertise of the French, with the traditions of the Olsson family’s ancestral Vikings – famous lovers of smoked things.

It also represents the coming together of three giants of the Australian food industry.

At the initiative of celebrated Sydney chef Ross Lusted, Alexandra Olsson (company founder’s grand-daughter) collaborated with Pialligo Estate Smokehouse. After many failed attempts, magic finally happened. Native Red Gum. Cold smoking. Three days.

The little reusable corningware ceramic jar & wooden spoon reflects the nostalgia and history of the wonderful product within – the Drakkar (Viking Ship), Olsson’s original 1960s font. It all looks great, tastes greater.
