A Century of Danish design
Eva Solo makes some of the world's more beautiful and functional household products. They're one of the first to insist that a good product is one that goes into a dishwasher. The Eva Solo company is the essence of Danish design, and practically every household in Denmark would have one of their products.
The company revels in the glow of such contemporary classics as the world's most awarded teapot (the Eva Solo Tea Maker), and the famous bowl with its own refuse chamber (the Smiley Bowl). Other Eva Solo products are not only on display at the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, but are actually in use in MoMa's restaurants.
Eva Solo is a 3rd generation family company, and whilst the company isn't named after a Mrs Solo, the name Eva is taken from the current MD's mother. The company began in 1913 as Kai Fog, thrived in the 1940s with a flour sifter, and in 1952 with a slicing machine under the Eva Denmark brand.
The company transformed from Eva Denmark to Eva Solo in 1997 - as an outlet for the work of celebrated designers Claus Jensen & Henrik Holbaek (and their Tools Design company). The Eva Solo brand has since been won over 60 international design awards
Eva Solo's credo is to make tools that are a pleasure to look at, to use, and to own. Many other companies would have similar aspirations, but Eva Solo products achieve. Curiously, designer Holbaek puts much of the company's success in household accessory design down to Denmark's climate. He thinks it keeps people indoors and makes the country more household focused
At the Good Store, we carry a fine selection of Eva Solo products for home, kitchen and garden; products which embody these principles of excellence, and which will bring a little beauty into any place.
