The Alessi Nut Splitter Walnut Opener splits walnuts. Perfectly. In half and with no cracking of the shell or loss of walnut flesh. No nutcracker or hammer required.
It works by inserting its pointy part into the slight aperture at the blunt end of the walnut, then twisting. The walnut will split perfectly into halves. Old Italian farmer technique was to do it with well-practiced bare hands and a nail.
The Alessi Walnut Splitter was developed by young ex-pat Australian Jim Hannon-Tan. He left Australia in 2001 to live in Italy and is now one of the handful of Australians to create for Milan’s mighty Alessi design house.
His Nut Splitter measures a tiny 4cm x 3cm. It’s based on the shape of the maple seed, is in gloss stainless steel, and comes nicely gift boxed. It can be engraved – by an elf.
