The Alessi Piccantino Chilli Scruncher stores dried chillis, and allows crushing and sprinkling at the table.
In parts of Italy, crushed chilli flakes are as much of a table staple as salt and pepper. It’s apt that this comes from revered Italian design house Alessi.
Piccantino is made from silicon and stainless steel. It has 2 different sized openings to allow better sprinkling on a margarita pizza, spaghetti alio e oglio, or anything. And yes, it’s supposed to look like a chilli.
The Italian word piccantino translates to “spicy”. Extra spice is that the designer is expat Australian designer Jim Hannon-Tan. After being raised in Adelaide, and graduating from RMIT in Victoria, he’s now Amsterdam based, and working with design headliners such as Magis, Capellini… and Alessi. Bravo.
