Crumpled City Maps are the best light, compact, strong, waterproof travel maps. They can just be crumpled between uses and don’t need meticulous folding like standard maps. Nor do they flatten the battery like a Smartphone app. And they make an excellent showercap, rain hat, picnic mat/tablecloth and hold-all (when tied up).
These are the work of award winning young Italian designer Emanuele Pizzolorusso. He uses a non-tearable material called Tyvek which is used in the building industry for waterproofing and dustproofing. Tyvek is already in use in our near-famous Mighty Wallets https://www.thegoodstore.com.au/l153-0/looking-good/dynomighty-mighty-wallets/
Crumpled City Maps also have a historical precedent – Escape Maps. In WWII, Waddington (the Monopoly Board Game people) used to print maps on silk to allow Allied soldiers to escape to freedom. Closer to home, the great Jack Sue and his Z Force dive colleagues were issued with silk maps when working behind lines into WW2. Your overseas adventures may not be quite as life and death, but Mr Pizzolorusso’s maps can still save you from a lot of bother.
