The Lamy Al-Star Fountain Pen is the swankier metal counterpart to Lamy’s classic plastic Safari design – right down to the barrel’s portal window to see how much ink is left. And the metal spring action clip, the ergonomic triangular grip, and the polished steel 1.5mm nib. It comes with a Lamy blue T10 ink cartridge, but fitting a Lamy Z24 converter unit (around $10) will allow it to take bottled ink.
What makes the Al-Star different is something that can’t be seen on a web image. It’s utterly gorgeous. The body is in shimmering anodised metal – just like nanna’s old set of picnic cups. It’s durable, very light, and prone to showing age in a gracious and charming way.
