Nachtmann Ruby Punk Tumbler is a single blood-coloured rendition of Nachmann’s celebrated clear crystal tumblers set for punk spirits – inspired by the Great Britain summer of Punk Rock in 1977 *
The nobbly texture of the tumblers offer a wonderfully solid 3d feel. It’s actually a reference to the studs on the belts & leather collars of Syd Vicious, Siouxsie Sioux and their fellow punks.
This can legitimately carry the Punk title ‘cos it’s come in the right way. Ruby Punk is the creation of young German ceramicist Anke Buchmann in 2017 when finishing a degree at London’s Central St Martin’s School of Arts – yes, former Art School of The Clash’s Joe Strummer.
Buchmann WAS surrounded by Brit Punk’s 40th celebrations at the time, and it inspired her Punk glassware design of something significant that happened before she was alive. Her gleaming sparkle of genuine crystal plays ironically with a punk aesthetic, won Nachtmann Glassware’s annual NextGen Design Prize, and went on to win at the Good Design Awards 2017.
Anke Buchmann is well aware that most original punks were probably drinking straight from the bottle. With these around, they may have pinched a tumbler and gone well flash
