Punch Laundry Bag by Suck UK is an award winning simple way of keeping clothes off the floor without taking up a lot of floorspace. It’s also has a good thick elastic carry strap to get it to a Laundromat without thin drawstrings cutting into hands.
Punch has a fine background : It was developed by Philadelphia University architecture Professor Jason Lempieri as part of an investigation into under-used domestic spaces. He identified corners, ceilings, and wardrobes as spaces of interest. The idea of adapting the punching bag form came to him in a flash of insight when he realised he was in Philadelphia -the home of Rocky.
Part inspiration also came from a famous 1994 exhibition at the Whitney Museum which featured deconstructed Everlast punching bags, and referenced African American icons Muhammed Ali, Tupac, and Ice Cube.
Lampieri spent time in boxing gyms and laundromats researching the execution of his idea. He included a D-ring and chain system for authenticity, and incorporated polyester with a vinyl bottom to avoid harm from detergent and water spills.
Professor Lampieri is rated on his university’s Rate My Professor site as being. “Funny as hell once you get over his brutal sarcasm.” It took English company Suck UK to get it.
